Metadata
Metadata is “data about data”, which can be present in the unseen HTML code of web pages, or in databases. Increasingly, metadata is becoming a necessary and useful component of internet sites.
In creating standard sites, Vmedia automatically include meaningful metadata in the home page at the very least. Vmedia’s SiteControl includes comprehensive metadata management utilities, ensuring there is relevant metadata on every resource and page for the site.
Taking metadata to the next level, Vmedia have created ParaMeta, a comprehensive metadata administration package. ParaMeta allows you to create meta-tags for web pages in both HTML and RDF formats, complying with common metadata protocol standards. Automated input into metadatabases is available, allowing database driven sites to access the metadata via server-side scripting. Metadata database administration is done via a web browser. ParaMeta is customisable for different metadata website requirements. This means administrators can construct the forms which the users and editors see when adding and editing metadata. Administrators also have control over who has access to which levels of the ParaMeta system.
