SiteControl Case Studies
NCVER
The National Centre for Vocational Education and Research (NCVER) is Australia's principal provider of vocational education and training (VET) research and statistics. The NCVER site integrates information from NCVER's Merlin database with Vmedia's Site Control software, bringing together files, documents, html pages and web databased site content into one seamless website presentation.
This is quite a large, high traffic site, which is often updated with new material in the form of research, news and reports. Having a 2 stage database driven site means that NCVER can publish content to the development site, distribute it internally for approval, and then selectively or entirely synchronise the development and live sites, all via a web browser interface. This makes it easier for them to manage the process of publishing material and ensure that the content is accurate and timely. NCVER can now manage, publish, administer and edit the site all via a browser based CMS, allowing distributed authoring and absolute control over publishing dates.
Some of the biggest improvements from their old site has been the much improved navigation, the ability to classify content items easily into several relevant themes, a breadcrumb trail, and the consistent design which the database provides. Other new features include on-line publication ordering, a dynamic latest news feature, and a sophisticated publications search and display. Feedback from the users of the new look NCVER site has been very good, with users happy they can now find what they want, where they expect to find it.
The web staff are also happy, they can now take their holidays just like everyone else!
