"We have a plan... Sharing ideas, providing direction, and keeping you informed are part of the way that we work."
Our Methodology
Vmedia adopt a planning approach to each project. Most often this involves scoping to ensure the project will be in line with your business objectives, and will deliver tangible benefits for you and your customers.
Some common steps we use in creating a project include:
Identify: Collect information on the audience, content and objectives. Consider and discuss these parameters within the context of timeframe and budget.
Architecture: Using the information already collected, determine the structure and hierarchy to be used. Develop the navigational style to be used for the project.
Architecture = Structure
The site map, hierarchy, structure, or “architecture”, is something which should be carefully developed with the needs of your core audiences in mind.
The content of your site should be organised in a way which makes it easy to understand the site’s purpose and content. Structure combined with design is the key to intuitive navigation.
Labelling and displaying an area effectively can make the difference between instant comprehension and total confusion.
Information architecture is a specialised field, it takes experience, knowledge and perspective to get it right. When you get the navigation right, everything else makes sense.
Vmedia have significant experience in this field, specialising in the production of information-rich sites and performing key roles in the restructure of many large government websites.
Layout of your carefully crafted image and information is one thing, but now there is a whole new dimension to consider - time.
Making sense of the stream of new information to your site by including social media, time sensitive event reporting, tracking of major issues is becoming a very popular. This provides new challenges but also new opportunities . Bringing together common sense labelling and layout with up to the minute use of technology delivers real punch. You can leverage your time and industry expertise with a little information management strategy.
You know what you want to say, who you want to reach, and what you are trying to do. Achieving what you want is all in the planning.

Design: Add colour, shape, visual and textural elements to enhance the brand, create an emotional connection and support the structure and content of the information presented.
Design = How you look
Image is important. Sites should be designed so that they achieve a balance between visual impact, information and the ability to download quickly.
Existing corporate branding should be incorporated and built upon where possible, to create a consistent and believable identity. Your corporate image should be enhanced by the creation of an appropriate design which optimises the screen environment for your visitor.
Designing for the web is a specialist and ever changing environment, the limitations and advantages of the internet are different from print and other multimedia.
Strategies which use the visual strengths of the internet, appropriate technology to deliver your message, combine with good graphic design to create a strong message about your company, your values, your focus and your objectives.
One of Vmedia’s strengths is combining an understanding of marketing and the internet with creativity. The entire team has a sound background in computer graphics, as well as fine arts degrees and specialist multimedia qualifications. Vmedia is not afraid to also employ the services of selected graphic designers and illustrators as needed, bringing different perspectives and experiences into the mix.
Blending the creative talent with project management and planning, as well as a sound technical background, enables us to confidently manage the creative approach to our projects and tailor the best solution for each client.

Construction: With the design approved, we compile all of the content and information to fit within the design and architectural structure.
Website Construction
When you build an on-line home for your information, you want to make sure it is well constructed.
There is a huge variety in the way that web sites are constructed.
Vmedia do most of our development in an open-protocol environment, which is the most compatible, robust and cost effective way to publish websites. This environment includes Unix and Linux servers, which we believe is not as vulnerable to attack as the alternative Microsoft web environments and applications. It is more cost effective, more flexible and is widely recognised and used by web professionals – there is a lot of support and therefore more flexibility and options for you.
HTML is the language of the internet, well coded HTML is the key to making your site work on all browsers. Sites use templates and CSS to format HTML applied to your content. Vmedia use and recommend either Adobe Dreamweaver or Joomla to ensure consistent design, layout and content for your website.
Dreamweaver is the industry standard design development software, providing professional standard HTML and working with other site building and programming applications.
Joomla is an Open Source Content Management System which offers a wide range of prepared modules. These functionality modules can offer a wide range of features for your site without needing to program everything from scratch.
Both approaches allow us to program additional custom functionality to suit your business needs, and we can usually advise up front which approach would be best for your project.

Planning helps to ensure that the best possible result is produced for your site.
The architectural style is only developed after we have considered the audience and purpose of the site. This means your site is designed specifically to communicate your information to your target audience, and to meet your core objectives..
